Rhode Island Red - Non Industrial
Al i have hatched 5 (maybe 6?) So far...2 non starters. I think 6 of the remaining 10 hatched overnight last night. And 2 of the 4 eggs left were chirping in the incubator not too long ago when i checked. They are gorgeous. Funny th chicks looked striped when i took them out-they were fluffed but not all completely poofy and now they definitely arent. They are gorgeous richly colored!!! I cant wait to cross them up into mine and see what happens.
There is just no comparison to the productions in this feather and down color is there.

WOOOOHOOOO Kathy thats Awesome! really glad your happy with them. I just hatched a whack load more. Ill add them up soon on my making babies thread. I had one hatch thats really lighter than the other reds. I uniquely marked it so I can tell it apart later. Can't wait to see what it ends up looking like.

Gawd if they are anything like Buckeye chicks, the lighter coloured chicks tend to be lighter red as adults too.

Final count for the 12 from you Al, 4 non-starters and 7 in the brooder and 1 dead in shell fully formed but no internal pip. so all in all, not bad, given that they sat on my turner waiting for a full load to go into the incubator for about 2 weeks before i got them set!

WOOOHOOOO Kathy! thats awesome! those eggs were from my blue band breeding pen, mostly my original birds from ERP. the bigger pen on the left of the rv coop.
I changed the title of the thread from non industrial to standard bred... sounds much better and is a proper term.

LOL i saw that and thought....oooo new RIR topic?? LOL. I cannot wait to cross them into my lines! i will keep my lines going (my rooster just attacked my hubby for the 3rd time so he's going to have to go, but looks like i have 2 more in the grow out coop outside) separate, and cross your lines in for a third line and then probably hold some of your line separate for the time behind until i'm sure i get 2 good lines going forward.

Not sure if this very informative link has been posted elsewhere, but there's great information here not just on RIR's: Bob Blosl's website (RIP Bob, 2013)

I figured I should post the absolute best bird I produced this year, a 2016 pullet.
