The American Game Bantam Breed

Post by Dennis Guy » Sun Dec 15, 2024 12:14 pm

I have bred the recognized American Game Bantam (AGB) breed for nearly 20 years. It is a small, but not tiny, single-combed, blue legged Game that manages southern Ontario's summers and winters every well, if housed properly. The AGB hen is a good layer of mid-sized eggs most of the year, and is an excellent setter-mother even as a yearling. The AGB rooster is not extremely territorial but can be protective of his hens. A mature rooster's sickle feather-tips can touch the ground, as the AGB rooster grows a larger and longer fan-tail annually, following molt.
After 5 years of selective breeding, I have produced a Salmon variety AGB, which is the same as the color-pattern in the Salmon Faverole. Salmon is the Wheaten-pattern version of the Partridge-based Golden Duckwing. The Salmon variety 'breeds True' while the Golden Duckwing does not. A Salmon's color genetics are Silver Wheaten + extended Mahogany. So it breeds true because the Wheaten pattern promotes Red pigments, to keep the yellow.
Now that I'm satisfied with their quality, I will have AGB Salmon-variety, month-old chicks available for sale this spring. Feather-sexed chicks $20 each.
