I have a few layers that give me speckled eggs. Even an EE gives me speckled eggs. I had a customer show up last evening (unannounced) to return 8 of her 4 dozen eggs looking for a replacement because those 8 eggs were speckled.

First, I refused the return. I'm tired of egg shenanigans and you don't like, move over because I have customers waiting that I don't produce enough eggs for. She said she can't buy my eggs anymore if I am going to continue to give her speckled. I said, no problem, I will scratch you off the monthly list. Not the answer she was looking for.

According to her 'facts' my chickens are 'malnourished' and/or quite possibly flawed in their egg process and should be culled. First, I know my chickens aren't malnourished. 1000% positive of that.

I googled this morning. http://thefrugalchicken.com/abnormal-chicken-eggs/ #9 nothing wrong with speckled eggs. I sent her an email with a few sites showing that speckled eggs are not a concern. She returned the email saying she would like to remain an egg customer but wouldn like to 'avoid' speckled eggs if at all possible.

Before I shoot my mouth off, does she have a valid concern that I am unaware of? (Anyone else have these crazies or am I a magnet)

Can you post a picture of your "speckled eggs" Sandy?
Is it just an uneven deposit of color in the top layer of shell?
There was an effort at one time to breed hens to lay speckled eggs, not sure anything came of it, always thought that would be fun.

Speckled eggs are not a problem certain breeds or mixes will do that but guess up to you whether it's more important to try & prove a point ( which sounds like you never will ) or give the customer what she wants ( first rule of sales)
if at all possible . If not say no & move on . Luck

It's a smooth egg. Some might have a little bit of a raised bump occasionally but for the most part they are just speckled eggs.

Eggs look good to me. Many species of wild birds lay speckled eggs, totally natural.

If you have other people wanting eggs I would tell this person to take a hike. Or charge double for non-speckled eggs.

The few people I sell to get all sorts of crazy coloured eggs... speckled, some half green half blue.... a chance of meat spots in my dark marans eggs. I tell my customers in advance about these things and if they are worried about strange eggs then they are not my customers. I have no time for those people.

For your own piece of mind, I would check around the vent of the hens that lay these, mites squashed while the eggs is being laid look similar.

Yesterday everyone got a dusting and inspection. Vent and under wings are always my go-to. Thanks.

Those are perfectly normal...your "customer" should just buy store eggs....
Or....i have chickens on deaths door lol especially my green layer...

One of mine lays a speckled egg. No worries.
