Jelly-like thing found on poop board this morning

I really should have taken a picture, but I'm not a morning person.

A 2" long slug-like thing consisting of clear jelly - with 4 x half-inch long white tentacles attached to one end was discovered on the poop board by hubby, who kindly left it for me to investigate.

Clearly, you will think I've gone off my rocker! There is nothing on the internet that even comes close, and questions to the big poultry list on the subject of jelly in the poop all go unanswered.

I wonder if it could be some kind of lash egg, but they seem to have more substance than this. Chicken parasites all seem to be wormy or miniscule. (I know what tape worms and round worms look like and they are not transparent).

Perhaps it was something that came out of the pond? It's sort of leech-like.

The Red Sexlink chickens all seem healthy. Although they are only 9 months old, one lay eggs very rarely and another is a bit sporadic.

Here's a snap. It's a few hours later and has dried up. The tentacles have gone brown and I broke a bit off, prodding the thing. I hope it isn't part of a chicken gut!

Do you feed fish meal? Or high protene layered mash that might have fish parts in it? I have heard of squid or shrimp or octopus eggs getting in the feed, and they sort of develop in the gut, but the salinity is not right, and they die and pass through.

I have heard that some times they get so big that a tentacle or two can come out the nether regions and constrict the chicken, and then the whole thing comes out and eats the chicken. I guess one woman went to get eggs and found and 8 lb octopus in the nest box. But because of where it developed, it only had six legs so it was really a sexopus. (Which is not to be confused with pornographical music which could have a sex-opus in it. They are things entirely different.)

This has never happened here as I only feed whole grain, not the layered mash stuff, but I can sure see it happening. And you have heard of four legged chickens? (If not, watch a few Green Acres reruns) I suspect that a couple of the four legs are really calamaries.

Ewww gross, I couldn't even finish reading these Two posts, grossed me out. I worm so I hopefully never see anything like this, but I know that doesn't always work.
I think farrier has been into the tequila! Could be he's right, who am I to say.
Honestly I don't know, I don't look at their poop too closely as it grossed me out

Sorry for grossing you out Kenya. It does sound as if Farrier has been at the Tequila, yet the "THING" reminded me of a little squid too!!!! Perhaps it was a young creature from the Black Lagoon that a chicken ate..... The pond isn't that far away, so something could have slithered out - or been carried by a passing snapping turtle, or dropped by a bird.....

I feed regular grain that looks pretty normal to me, but if I find a giant squid perhaps I should make some calamari!

Well that's a relief WLLady. Thanks :).

I was wondering if it was a Hydra from the pond, but then I discovered the length (in the article I was reading) was in mm, not cm and Hydra's are really tiny......

LOL yes, hydras are microscopic! so are amoebas.....
nah, that's just a mucusy little piece of ooginess. Believe me, chickens can produce some very ugly weird looking things....shell-less eggs, lash eggs, eggs that literally look cooked....blech....
