Man who sold me ILT-infected chickens still selling

Hi folks!

A few months back I bought birds from a man which ended up testing positive for ILT (the brahma was mildly symptomatic from day one, and when one of them deteriorated to hacking blood I brought her to Campus Estate Animal Hospital where the test was done). The birds he sold me also had feather lice and scaly leg mites, so the whole thing was a crash course on chicken nursing. Did a lot of medicated baths + rubbing legs in olive oil!

The birds survived, and I intend to keep them quarantined until their death (I will never breed/sell birds, these guys are all I have), but it looks like one now has viral-induced cancer from the ILT, so.....not the happiest of endings.

I gave the seller's information to my vet, and the seller told me he'd sold all of his birds and would pass on the ILT warning to other buyers, but as you might guess he was being less than truthful. All the guy did was change his kijiji name and continue selling.

I'm new to the chicken world, the ones I bought from him being my first, so I'm not sure if there's any health registry I can give his information to that will stop him from selling ILT-infected birds? Would be very grateful for any advice.

Have attached an invoice from the vet visit for the ILT, a photo of my coop with blood hacked all over it, and a screenshot of the guy lying about his birds being cleared of ILT via text ("the vet was here, he says my birds don't have".....then one day later, "sorry how is the ILT test done again?" )

And on a lighter note, here's my surviving plague birds enjoying some watermelon. Excuse their gross faces, they kept trying to rub the watermelon juice off into the dirt with predictable results.

Thanks to you and your vet, they are looking good now. :-)
Glad your birds survived, and are now thriving, by the looks of it, but sorry that you and your birds had to go through all that. Unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there.

Wow The birds are looking good but that's a ridiculous vet bill, I never thought it would be that much.

The guy probably used to sell used cars and got his license pulled, just can't give it up tho. That kind really irritate me, whether its goats or chickens or whatever. Take care.

It's strange because every time I go to the vet I'm in shock when I see the bill. When Otis was bitten by a tick carrying lyme disease. I went 3 times and the total bill was around $1000. I recently was talking to our neighbour who is a retired vet (dogs and cats) and he said you will never be rich being a vet. Maybe the pharmaceutical companies are making most of the money?
