A breeding rooster not a pot one.

. I have an ameraucana rooster maybe 7 -8 yrs old with a hen flock of 9. He stands around with his beak tipped to touching the ground most of the day. He is first in the coop late afternoon up on the roost. Still crows and hops on the on odd hen. Wondering if he is hitting extreme old age? Never had a rooster around as long as this one. The Pyrenees has made a world of difference in predators so this rooster has had a well protected life in comparison to his many predecessors.

Good for him but he is up there and it's a tribute to good care!
Hope you have a spare guy. One of a friends Langshans lasted until 13.

Thanks for the info! I have a friend who‘s spring hatch has a nice replacement. I’ve left some eggs under a couple of hens. Fear he is shooting mostly blanks. Still finding the odd fertilized ones in the frying pan....
