Does anyone vaccinate their chicks, and if you do, what do you vaccinate against?
Thanks!

Mine are vaccinated for Infectious Laryngotracheitis... I had a sudden outbreak in my Giant breeder coop year before last. It didn't spread to other coops, but I vaccinate everyone just in case, thanks to two other members close by who vaccinate also. It's a disease for life, and the survivors could shed diseased dander at any time. I use a Tissue Culture Origin vaccine , which isn't as effective as Chick Embryo Origin, and must be repeated yearly...but it doesn't revert to virulence, meaning low risk of the vaccinated birds developing symptoms of the disease or shedding it. ILT is a herpes virus, and the vaccine is thought in some circles to provide protection against other herpes strains like Marek's.
If you ever think you might want to show your birds, an ILT vaccine is a good idea. Exposed birds and survivors can look the picture of health, but can shed virus into the air if under stress. You don't want to possibly bring that crap home to your flock, choking to death on their own blood is not a pleasant way for chickens to die.
