I think I've got two hens with canker. Last year, after my resident crows moved next door, a pair of pigeons moved into the barn. I always intended to move them out again, if you catch my drift, but never got around to it. I had a hen drop weight fast last fall with a mouth full of yellow gross, and ended her misery, but didn't really connect the dots. She was older, 7 years or so, and I backburnered the whole deal while I dealt with other crap. Now I have the wherewithal to pay closer attention in my flock, I have two more. One has it bad in especially the side of her mouth. There's an open spot that pus chunks come out of, and it appears to involve her infraorbital sinus. She is being knocked off tomorrow if she lives so long. The other hen has yellow stinky gross UNDERNEATH her poor little tongue. Appetite is excellent in both birds, but they don't eat much in one go (I'm assuming it hurts a LOT) and are dropping weight. I'm sure there are some pigeon people who have dealt with this before, does this sound like canker? It reeks. Worse than Cocci, worse than Coryza, worse than the grossest maggot-blown infection.
What is the best way to treat? I have a VERY small amount of metronidazole on hand. I always try to keep some for turkey poults for blackhead. I can order more if that's the best route, but it could take upwards of a month (or longer) to get here, and since I eat their eggs, I'm not sure treating the whole flock with flagyl is a good idea, but will do it if that's what is best.
Yellow drops?

I’ve used dabs of milk of magnesia on it regularly till goes away . Use eye dropper or Q tip Jan

I have a lot of metronidazole, if you need it. I have 1 package full. I could put some into a baggy and mail it to you, if you need. Just to let you know, it's a couple of years old and has been in my freezer.

Milk of magnesia? Who'd have thunk it? I bet it's soothing. Thanks @ross now, I just have to find some when we go out next. @Kbr42 I will pm you.

That’s one treatment hope works . Once I improved my ventilation upstairs in barn had no more .

I have some milk of magnesia if you aren't able to source it, @windwalkingwolf . Not sure if MoM has a "best before" date though ... I've had it for "a while" now.
