lameness in mature quail

Post by Jaye » Wed Feb 19, 2020 5:38 pm

We've been monitoring/helping out a mature quail for the last few days. No idea why she's gone lame. We'll be doing a more in-depth look at her shortly, just to see if there is obvious dislocation or something. I've been putting her next to the waterer several times a day, and she's been drinking up a storm, plus we've been giving her cooked up egg, (before the hordes get wind of treats, and descend on the treats being offered). Any other time of the day, I've seen that she manages to get to close to the feeder (no idea how, since she is barely mobile). Hoping for some insight. She's a sweetie and and trooper. We lost another one of our favourites, Lily, a few days back, but we totally chalked that up to old age/her time. She died warm (under the heater hover in one of the houses) and peacefully, as far as we can tell, snuggled up with the quail we are trying to help out now.
Any ideas/suggestions/insights?

@kenya , she's probably 2 1/2 - 3 YO by my calculations. We got her when she was in her 2nd year and that was about 1 1/2 years ago. Same age as Lily.
