So everyone had a round of safeguard about a month ago. This is a roundworm right? I've only ever seen cecal worms in

. Horsepaste should have got those or am I wrong?

I think that how Ivermectin works is that it binds to a parasite's muscle and nerve cells, causing paralysis (and eventually death). Sometimes they get expelled before they are dead.

Yuck I don't know but I'm glad you gave a graphic warning. That's just sooo gross, I remember worming puppies one time and they came out like spaghetti, I still can't eat spaghetti!

fenbendazole works by interfering with the worm’s metabolism weakening and eventually killing the worms. The worms usually come out dead or close to dead, when I have used it on birds and reptiles.

Thanks everyone. I guess I didnt think it would take a month to expell them. I have some piperazine and considering doing a round of that as a follow-up. This mornings discovery has me freaked out.

Judging by the size of that thing, it probably would take awhile for the anti parasitic to disable it.

It probably wouldn't hurt to do a follow-up treatment, just to make sure you got all of them.

Good reminder for a fall clean up before the time inside exceeds the free range time, I am pretty sure they all picked up some cooties during the hot and humid days of summer.

Yes, that's a roundworm

Fenbendazole needs to be given for three days in a row. Ugh, thanks
@kenya for the spaghetti visual!

Speaking of Fenbendazole, can anyone tell me where I can buy some? Our vet refuses to prescribe Ivermectin for poultry, and will only prescribe something that I think is called Valbasen, IF I bring in a representative chicken from my flock along with a stool sample. So, $45 for a vet visit, plus the cost of a fecal test, plus the possibly inflated cost of the medication they will prescribe. I love my chickens, but none of my present hens are particularly cooperative when it comes to being handled by strangers, I don't have a money tree growing on the property, so ...
Any suggestions? If this has already been asked and answered, sorry. I have done a cursory search, but haven't found anything yet.

Pea size blob on little piece of bread 3 days in a row for standard size chickens. 1/2 pea size for bantams. Mine fight over it lol.
I bought this at my local feed store.
