Availability of lice treatments?

Post by cgbalch » Fri Mar 29, 2019 8:49 pm

Hello,

I have a hen that I suspect has lice. I read online to go get some lice powder for poultry and dust it into her feathers. But I've gone to several agricultural stores near me and they are all telling me the same thing: that the lice powder is no longer available for sale in Ontario. Do I need to go through a vet? Or is there something that people are using now instead that works? She has a dust bathing area, was going to try adding some DE to it. My other 9 hens look fine.

Thanks in advance!

First you will need to treat all of the birds and the coop. I use that dust too and it is the best but apparently not available. I do use Ivermectin pour on 2x a year for mites and worms Someone on here said you can get it in the gardening section now>? Carbaryl.I hope someone pipes up.

Or if you can't find it in any garden centre, and you are close to a US border town, you can still buy the dusting powder at Tractor Supply. I know the exchange rate isn't great, but ...

If you are desperate, you may be able to get some kind of lice treatment for pet birds from a pet store, probably not in a large amount though.
