Hen with hole in neck :/

Morning,
I have a year old black copper maran hen with a hole in the back of the neck, I'm thinking it's from the rooster mounting/holding on as lots of feathers are missing, it's big enough that a pencil could fit in for size wise, any ideas on how to treat it?
She's still laying like a champ alll the years of raising I've never had or seen this, she's in the alleyway in front of the pens with 3 young salmon favorelle pullets away from the other adult birds
Thanks,

I would use BluKote to spray into the entire wound. If not pack it with Polysporin Ointment. Lucky it isn't hot weather so no flies around.

:iagree:
It's amazing how fast they can heal given time and space.
BlueKote definitely the best way to go, keeps the surrounding area desinfected too.

This caused me to go look for my Blukote in case @Giffen Farms needed it. I do have some Colin but it's expired :dunno:
It's been kept in a cool basement since purchase so I can't imagine it wouldn't still work. Anybody know?

Pink eye spray helps too.

That looks pretty nasty, I can't see the rooster doing that much damage, sure you don't have a predator?

How far out of date is it. I would still use up to 6 months after. TSC version is Blue Lotion, a dab on found in the horse aisle.

Holy cow, that looks nasty.
I agree; it is amazing how fast hens heal from open wounds.
We have Vetracyn (sp?) that we spray on wounds. Is Blukote similar?

Iodine also works well as an antiseptic; so does Betadine solution, and both are less expensive than Blue Lotion.
Blu-Kote is an antiseptic. Vetericyn is probably similar. It's an antimicrobial. I guess it boils down to use whatever you have on hand or can easily find in your area on short notice.

Looks nasty for sure. I might consider polysporin with vet wrap to keep everyone away from bugging her. I've used blu note before as well...I should own shares in polysporin for sure...lol

I agree it looks more like an attack than an over active rooster.
