That looks pretty nasty, I can't see the rooster doing that much damage, sure you don't have a predator?
Not inside a well built coop, everyone is locked inside until spring or until I can figure out a fencing system as there is a concrete barn foundation 4" below the grassbed.

How far out of date is it. I would still use up to 6 months after. TSC version is Blue Lotion, a dab on found in the horse aisle.

Ok thanks I'll try and grab some this weekend.

This caused me to go look for my Blukote in case @Giffen Farms needed it. I do have some Colin but it's expired :dunno:
It's been kept in a cool basement since purchase so I can't imagine it wouldn't still work. Anybody know?
What is that? I've never heard of it

It's an antiseptic spray that stains everything dark purple so other birds don't see the wound and pick at it. I've only used it once and it worked well. Mines expired a year ago but I'd use it in a pinch as better than nothing. I bought this at Ritchie's in Elmvale. Your welcome to it if you'd like. I'm just around the corner. Pm me

It's just Blue Lotion in a spray, it's really good! Don't wear anything you're fond of when you use it! It also stops the others pecking at the wound.

Surgical gloves are a good way to protect your hands, and still feel what you are doing.

Holy cow, that looks nasty.
I agree; it is amazing how fast hens heal from open wounds.
We have Vetracyn (sp?) that we spray on wounds. Is Blukote similar?
Vetericyn is basically water, bleach, salts and baking soda.
Blu-Kote is gentian violet, salts, lye, alcohol and coal tar.
