Thank you for posting this. We were planning to attend the auction and bird sale in Woodville this Saturday. Would they stop the sale of birds there now?

Yes I just got a email back from the woodville auction barns and the regular Saturday morning auctions of birds will be on as usual.

As I understand it from my contacts , ILT is a reportable disease , but it does not have the same restrictions as say AI . It is a risk factor for sure with any one that has lived through it can attest.. it can be a 2/3 loss situation with the virulent strains and less with the less virulent strains... all in all just a situation you want to avoid for the health of your flock. Mind you it is not going to mutate into anything that can affect humans like AI has the potential of being. Caution should be used at all times.. and especially when you have knowledge it is in an area. Personally I avoid such events that you are mentioning .To me there is little good that can come from these events.. scary comes to mind. I do not like to think of what could be brought home from such events . Problem being little to no traceability with these types of sales... not just in purchases but also what you might bring home on your person. Just my opinion mind you ... each to his own.

Ok I have to be the dummy who has to ask, What is ILT? How much would it cost the people who publish these advisories to put the full name of the disease in parentheses? Like this: COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Are we supposed to be born knowing every possible acronym? IDTS. NIMHO. LOL.
