What's wrong with my rooster?

Booster from the feed and seed, squirt in his mouth with an eye dropper if you really want to save him. That will get him through a few days to see if he recovers. Never been able to save a bird myself..

Final update....Jim, my Silver Dorking rooster, just died from what appears to be heart failure. He was still alive this morning when we got up but wouldn't even take water from dropper, and was beginning to foam at the mouth. By the time he expired, his comb had turned black and DH (who was a paramedic in a past life) said he was displaying all the signs a human would display with heart failure.

At least he was warm and as comfortable as we could make him.

i'm sooooo sorry.

it just sucks losing any of them.

his comb in that photo is classic heart-the back 1/3 or so is darker, almost in a straight line up the comb.....

Aw, so sorry. I agree with the heart failure. The green in the poo was from not eating, all the white was from kidneys failing (usually the first to go when heart starts to bet baggy, and sick kidneys= no appetite) so fluid can't be excreted properly, then it backs up into lungs or body cavity. Knowing the 'why' doesn't really make it easier, but at least you don't have to worry it was something contagious. Nothing you could have done, except what you did

Thanks everyone. Actually, knowing the mechanics of it does help a bit...I'm a 'need to understand the mechanical process' sort of person (to the point of learning way more than I ever wanted to about infertility and now have two kids because of it (sorry if that's TMI

) )and although we'll never know why it failed (we've narrowed it down to bad genetics, possible undetected damage at some point, or lack of exercise because we had to keep him penned for the last month), at least understanding what actually happened to the poor guy makes it easier to accept (and hopefully avoid in the future)...kind of.

most of the time this is genetics, or plain old age, but since he wasn't old, it's probably genetics.
