Dried peas
My neighbor brought me a bucket of dried peas today to see if my chickens would like them. They gobbled them up. I know they are high in protein. My dad used to grow them for pigeon racers. Are they ok (as a treat only) for chickens? He has a wagon full that were cleanings from the machines.

Re: Dried peas
yes - high in protein- maybe 10% of their diet - corn is 15% protein.

I find the internet is great - if you ask the right question.

Re: Dried peas
My only comment is ensure they are dried properly.. noted for a mold issue if not that can be lethal to chickens.. I acquired some human grade split peas years ago ( 45 gallon drum ) .. most liked them but was only used asa top dressing a few times a week .. over all not a controlled situation from a nutritional stand point . Also had a neighbour give me some once .. took them but did not feed them do to seeing small amounts of black mold in some of the peas. Just be aware this can be an issue

Re: Dried peas
I worried about them swelling in the crop and GI tract. Can that be an issue?
