Another weird egg

Post by SandyM » Mon Jan 18, 2016 1:14 pm

I haven't had a shell-less egg in some time....I have increased oyster shell in feed and they always have free choice in a different feeder.

Today I got this egg.

It feels a bit like a SOS pad. I'll assume nothing is wrong, just my dualie pullet being a dualie with her crappy egg shell issue ..but thought I'd post because it's not one I have seen to date.

Cheers

It's just deposits of calcium on the outside of the egg. i imagine it's not all that comfy for the poor hen, the egg will be fine to eat etc. not much you can do if she's eating that much calcium, it could also be because the girls are slowing down laying at this time of year and the eggs move more slowly through their system. You may find that she lays a few of these and then goes back to a normal smoother shell in time....

I got a duplicate egg today - just like the picture in the first post. Rings like Saturn .. WEIRD! However, on top of that I got a rather round egg and a tiny egg today.

These girls always keep me wondering.
