Chicken losing weight

Post by kenya » Sun Aug 13, 2017 5:51 pm

I have a rooster eats like crazy but is losing weight big time. No sign of worms, and I do use ivermection for lice and mites, no sign of those. I'm thinking worms but I would have thought the ivermection would have taken care of that. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm afraid I'm going to lose him.

You can try some panacur or safeguard. If you are using pour on ivermectin you might not be getting the worm co trol. You can also get piperazine at the feed store-put in the water....
Otherwise i would check and make sure he is eating properly-not just picking up and dropping the feed. Usually some kind of illness is going on when they drop weight fast....hopefully a change in wormer helps him....good luck!!!

He is swallowing the food down and I've given him some wet cat food which he devours and it does seem to perk him up more.

Safeguard and Panacur are paste horse dewormers.

you can get safeguard pretty cheaply from pleasant ridge (mail order too!) or any feed store that carries horse or sheep wormers...
