Amprol

Post by Happy » Tue Aug 01, 2017 3:17 pm

Is Amprol available in feed stores "over the counter"?
I know someone in Quebec looking for some (she has dying chicks) and she says vet has none and not available at feed store. On-line is a huge jug and 2-3 week delivery. Any advise?

Does she know anyone in her area that also raises calves or chickens on a larger scale? They may have some. I assume that she has determined that they have coccidiosis rather than something else?
If she's close to the border, she could always get some at Tractor Supply. I know they usually carry it at the one in Ogdensburg.

Ya I suggested that but doesnt seem like an option. I'm feeling like there's a lot of reasons why she can't get this med. So starting to wonder...

TSC usually has it, but only in gallon jugs. What might be a cheaper option is sulfa drugs, like sulphamethazine. You can get amprolium and sulfas online at www.farmersfarmacy.com as well.

Also, in a bind, crushed up calf scour tablets may work, and may be easier/cheaper to find in small quantities, but the dosing is trickier.
Loads of people are having massive losses to Coccidias this year, and they seem to be a very aggressive strain that kills almost overnight. Touch wood, I'm not one of those people, but I'm prepared just in case lol

I bought CORID (Amprol) 20% Soluble powder off of Amazon.ca earlier this Spring and have been using it all spring, to be proative. Unfortunately if she has chicks dying will probably be too late by the time it would arrive. I have some here in Eastern Ontario, I could spare.
