LOL....no, scratch isn't needed. but man, do they every have fun "scratching" through the bedding and snow to find it and eat it. :-)

must admit i feed cracked corn....especially to the horses, as i find they will swallow a lot whole without chewing it, and it comes out looking just like it did going in....total waste. Chickens break and grind it in their crops though, but since i'm feeding horses the cracked, my chickens get cracked, and we go through a 50 pound bag pretty fast.

As a kid growing up on the S/W edge of London(Ont) I fed cracked corn & wheat (cheap) to my Roller pigeons , even spread on ground . The dog I had at the time as the one I have now loved to clean up left over corn . Left what I told the neighbor kids was " little oh' Henry bars round the yard . :-) Luck

This is my scratch. I add to their 2nd feeding of the day and provide freely at that time as well.

This is the only scratch I have ever bought. Good? Is that cracked corn or no?

Looks like whole corn on my iPhone . My mill sells both cracked or whole . Yours looks more like a mixed pigeon feed . Corn cracked , cut rolled or whole & wheat , barley , oats . 4 ingredients is mostly what's out there . Yours looks like a full complete feed Sandy .

The only problem with using this as a feed is there isn't any minerals etc added.
But good to know that it's not junk I'm supplement to their feed. Thanks Ross

Don't think the chickens care but long as your happy with it is all that counts . Once them birds go to free range who knows what they's eating that's blown in or fallin from sky . You can always add vit & mineral packs to the water Sandy Luck
