Cold weather and poop

Post by Killerbunny » Tue Jan 05, 2016 3:45 pm

Just a reminder for anyone who hasn't had chickens in the winter before. You now have the job of watching for frozen "butt clumps" and removing them. Easy to do by hand or a cat comb but it's uncomfortable for them if you don't!

One bonus to frozen poop is it's easy to scoop from the coop and doesn't get all over the bottoms of my boots anymore!!!!

What do you mean remove them? I have to pick them all up and inspect? How often?

That's up to you Sandy but specially the Silkies (fluffy butts ) as some call um when nite temps are double didget minus . Best easiest time is when on roost after sunset if you have trouble catching during daylight . Luck

I wormed last night and did a poop check- all clear except for one sex link cross hen. I really like the tight feathered birds, far fewer problems with errant poops.
