I realized today that this hens legs have disappeared! Lol
She's looking pretty stumpy. Bitchy is 5 this spring weighs in at 7 lbs. She is from Frey's hatchery. I do think her bum fluff gets bigger every year but is 7lbs too heavy for this breed?

I think it's the small log makes her look fat . Get a bigger log . It's all in perception . JMO

You really have to feel her abdomen, breast and pelvis.

I pulled out my standard :-) for BPR it says....

Cock 9 1/2 lbs Cockeral 8 lbs
Hen 7 1/2 lbs Pullet 6 lbs

So according to the book no shes not fat, just needs a bigger log. ;-)

have a good one!

thanks Al! Geez she's underweight lol

@Killerbunny I know how to do the breast/keel test and based on that I would say she's good condition...I can feel her keel but not sharp and breast feels firm. Abdomen I can figure out probably but what am i feeling for on pelvis? Sorry just trying to learn.
Thanks!

She looks just like my freys barred rocks did and they were laying machines for years. Bigger stump vote here too

I seem to have both ends of the spectrum from Frey's. This girl is and always has been skrawny. She's 5 too. Based on @ross theory she needs to pose on a twig.

@WLLady the 3 I have left from my original 10 from Frey's are the ones that laid med eggs. All the huge layers passed.

Pelvis you can check GENTLY for flexibility. You don't want big pads of fat there or abdomen to interfere with her laying.
