I think she's just very fluffy :) Like crinolines under a skirt, her feathers make her look fatter than she is. If she doesn't have a squishy pouch between vent and keel, I'd say her weight is fine.

I realized today that this hens legs have disappeared! Lol
She's looking pretty stumpy. Bitchy is 5 this spring weighs in at 7 lbs. She is from Frey's hatchery. I do think her bum fluff gets bigger every year but is 7lbs too heavy for this breed?

I am glad you mentioned her age, I agree with Jan she looks fine.
I have noticed the same thing on the Wyandottes, as they age the weight shifts (I guess it comes to most of us with age) and the fluff deepens, some of my 4 & 5 year old Wyandottes are really getting that Victorian ladies look now, although they looked much trimmer until about 2 years of age.
In comparison the Ameraucanas stay trim well in to old age, I would say almost reverse from the heavy breeds, rounder and fluffier when young and more streamlined in their old age.

Thanks ladies! It will be a sad day when I lose those older girls so just want to keep them healthy as long as I can. I think my first chickens-even though they are just hatchery girls-will always be the most special. OC I guess this is chicken version of middle-aged spread ;)
@Kenya will post a pic for you later lol

The same answer applies, remember, it's just a question of the size of the stump ;)

That's it. In spring I'm building one of those HUGE Muskoka chairs lol. Human version of a big stump.
