We have had a recovering hen (BSL) in a box, in the house since about Dec 27th. She has never tried to jump and fly out, yet when it is uncovered.
She had an ID bracelet that poked into her ankle and got infected.
The infection seems to have subsided. Last liquid that came out was a spot of blood, about 2-3 days ago, which I believe is a good sign.
She still favours that foot, and today we did not bandage it. We still bathe it in Epsom salts with a squirt of mild soap.
We let her wander in the kitchen (it's ceramic tile) for exercise, not that she walks around much, but is alert and gradually walking more.
We think a tendon or ligament was harmed.
When ready.... To acclimatize her to the outdoors, we will most likely move the box into the basement, then the garage, then put her with the rest of the flock.
Any feedback / input / recommendations based on others' experiences would be great. We're always learning!

Agree with both opinions above! Lol
Try to time your acclimatizing period to end with some warmer weather if possible as well. -2 with some sun is going to feel a lot better to her than suddenly outside in -15 degrees. Good luck

Husband also had a thought: When we get to the garage stage, bring in a couple of other BSL hens for 15-20 mins., then put them back with all the others.

If you can, section off part of the run where the others can see the returning hen, but can't access her; i.e., a fenced off area. If you can facilitate a gradual re-introduction, this may minimize "negative re-entry into the flock". At minimum, when you re-introduce, be present and ready to ward off any nastiness that gets out of control. just my two cents.
