Deworming with Piperazine?
So.. Went to the feed mill and the owner sold me Piperazine 52 for deworming. I mentioned ivermectin but she said this would work. Looks easier than trying to figure out the weight of a chicken and dosing that way since this just goes in the water. I see from searching on the forum that others have used it. Online research says not to use in egg laying birds though?? Ugh! Manufacturers covering their rear? If I can use it, what withdrawal time should I use for the eggs? 2 weeks?

I've used it before...If I remember correctly I think withdrawal was 14 days. It will only treat roundworm.
I had a fecal run on chicken
last spring and it came back with low load of roundworm...My vet (cat/dog vet) told me he has no idea why they still sell piperazine because it is no longer effective...Worms are immune. Based on advice I received here I used safeguard horse wormer. Was easy and fast. I think withdrawal was same period but I ate the one egg a day I was getting at the time lol.

Withdeawal is 14 days. I just eat my own eggs though with no issues (just dont sell them). Piperazine worked great for me for roundworms...i think the resistence depends on location....its easy just make up in water and they drink their dose in a day and then take out water. If peobs persist them use safeguard or ivermectin....

That makes sense. Also piperazine is one of the meds they treat humans with for Worms (not that I've had them lol) so I never worried much about eating the eggs myself after treating chickens.WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST ...i think the resistence depends on location....
