Sick Chicken, too.

Here we are again with a sick chicken. This time, though, it's different. Not bumblefoot. It is a case of an ankle bracelet (to ID a treated-for-bumblefoot) kept on too long. An end part of the bracelet had punctured her skin, causing an infection and swollen foot. Poor little thing has been in the house, in a large cardboard box for a few days, now. We have been bathing her feet & ankles in warm water with Epsom salts and a bit of soap, then dressing it with Polysporin and wrapped. She seems to be getting better and putting her weight on her foot, at times.

Aw :( was it a spiral band, kind of like a piece of spring coil? Those are famous for poking skin and sometimes lodging in flesh.

Yes, that be the kind. We will know not to keep them on that long again, if we need to ID particular hens.
I started a new post about this same hen re: isolation time.
