Coccidiosis treatment

Post by WLLady » Mon Dec 05, 2016 9:14 pm

10 days of amprolium (5 days at 0.024% and 5 days at 0.012%) and off 5 days. If symptoms return during that 5 days repeat treatment for 10 days at 0.024%. At least this is what my vet recommended and it worked beautifully in 10 days.

I'm surprised, I usually only use it 4 days but I guess it depends on how bad they have it.

Coccidiosis treatment

Depends on how resistant it is, too. There's some strains popping up that have evolved to evade normal courses of Amprlium. Might as well make sure it's knocked down for good.

You dilute the amprolium in their drinking water-at least this is by far the easiest way when having to treat all the birds on the premises. Cocci is transmitted easily so i wouldn't just treat one bird here and there, everyone gets treated whether symptomatic or not.

FYI we have a "moderate case" from a laboratory test at Guelph. I have noticed no diarrhea, the chickens look happy as pie, and are laying 2.68 eggs per day! I guess this is what moderate looks like. We are using Amprolium 9.6% solution, Mix 2.5 mL per liter of water for first week. Mix 0.625 mL per liter of water for 2 more weeks. Ensure no other water is supplied. No withdrawal required.
