Infectious Laryngo Tracheitis ILT Alert

Post by modern17 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 8:37 pm

Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news... There has been a confirmed case of ILT Infectious Laryngo Tracheatis in Eastern Ontario. This virus is easily transmitted and the best line of defense is vaccinating . See the attachment below.. once again OMAFRA & CFIA are advising of heightened biosecurity practices in the affected area .

Thank you for the information, timely reminder not to relax biosecurity measures, seems like if it's not one thing, it's another.

And that is why we keep the Biosecurity up year round.
Will see about the South Mountain Fair Mid August and the Spencerville fair Beginning of Sep.

Oh boy. I'm glad I vaxx for this one but since it's non-shedding it's slightly less effective.
Thanks Troy

How do you vax for this? Call up the farm vet for a vaccine? Is this something only sold in 1000 doses or more?

Its a simple process ... a drop in the eye. I like to do it at night.. have all your birds shut in .. its easier off the roost.... All should be done... with the mild version of the vaccine ( I do not like the term non shedding ) ... all should be done every year... even if some one tells you they are done.. if you did not see the drop go in ... do them your self. Really cheap protection at approx. $25 a vile... a must here in Ontario.
