It IS slightly less effective but I believe less risky.

KB just out of curiosity if your flock had it can you still vaccinate or are your birds carriers after?
I don't know. I know WWW vaccinates now and she had it a few years back. No birds leave her and she hasn't had it since even in the new birds. Need to ask her really.

The literature for LT-Ivax says you can vaccinate birds that already have ILT, but the literature does not say if the bird will continue to shed virus.

Infectious Laryngo Tracheitis ILT Alert

Birds that are infected with ILT, or have been in the past, are lifetime carriers. But, if you vaccinate these birds, shedding is reduced or eliminated. I have 4 ILT survivors...Got it in my Giant just over two years ago I think? And with a lot of hard work, a miracle or two, including some awesome PTO members, kept it confined. I lost, or culled, 12 birds at the time and three since that later suddenly lost weight. Every bird I own gets vaxxed except last summer I skipped a sick turkey. I run them all together 5 months of the year and so far it hasn't popped back up in infected birds nor have there been any symptoms in my two other chicken flocks, knock on wood :-/
