Have a young hen. Will be a year late this summer. Has been laying everyday
Today she is just standing around. Looking "off"
Picked her up and felt in behind vent
Very firm feeling
Looked for post on what to do for egg bound hen. Can't find one. I know there were posts about it on old site
Any info would be greatly appreciated

Often they will take a "penguin" stance. Try an Epsom salts bath and a quiet dark place to relax and rest, that may help. You can gently lubricate the vent area with KY Jelly or similar to help the egg pass. Olive or coconut oil in the vent too. Be very careful not to push too hard in case you break the egg. Hope this helps.

I grabbed the hen to put her into warm Epsom salt bath a I felt some thing warm fall out
It was a large soft egg. No shell?
Can they get egg bound from a soft shelled egg?????
Anyway continued with bath anyway.
She is standing normal now and runs away from me too!

yes they can, the surface is rough, and tends to hang up just at the lip of the vent. glad she is feeling better!!!! you did great!

I have never heard of that but that looks like what was bothering her. Hope she's OK now! Keep an eye on her because sometimes if it happens once it may happen again.

OMG!!!
She just dropped another one. No she'll. Didn't get to it quick enough. Hit ground broke open and other hens devoured it
How could she have 2 there ready to come out with no shell
Within 15 minutes of each other??????

Yaaaayyy! So nice to have a happy ending. If you weren't watching, things could have ended badly for this little hen. Good job!

The first egg was probably in there for a couple of days, the other eggs just back up behind it.

Some hens actually find it painful to pass soft-shelled eggs, and won't push them out, then other eggs get backed up behind. Hopefully not too far behind, because that's dangerous for the hen. As long as it doesn't look like yolk coming out of her vent, it's probably just mucus/bloom, not egg white. If there's membrane or yolk coming out, she's in big trouble, otherwise, she should be fine!
