Are you sure he's sick and not just doing the rooster head shake thing? Mine does it after a crow and sometimes at other times. It's more a "look at me ladies"! First time I saw a boy dance I was convinced it had a neuromuscular problem LOL!

Sandy, first of all you must stop visiting "the other" forums, they are all full of misinformation as we all know, accept for PSO/PTO which is full of folks who are simply brilliant.
Next, unless you brought in new birds, the chance of some deadly exotic disease just cropping up, is very slim to nonexistent.
Last but not least, you need to let your chickens be chickens. You take good care of your birds, so keeping an eye on things is very good, running yourself ragged with worry, not so much.

From your description I would guess he is trying to dislodge something from his throat, might have been successful by the morning, unless the t-rex got him.
Possibilities are endless as we know may include special treat, bit of building material or a dead mouse as per PaJenn post.

Oh. I have no idea they did that KB. He seems perfectly normal except for that ... And BYC has a whole slew of reasons why ... None of them were ''oh look at me syndrome'

But y'all seem pretty calm about it so I'll calm down too. Phew!!! Thanks everyone.

I'm a passionate person (or anal) OC. I take premium care of anyone and everything in my life and with that I take great pride in the care I give my flock ... But you're bang on ... I need to let them be chickens so I can breathe a bit and enjoy them more.
Starting tomorrow. HAHA!

Some of my roosters do that head shake thing-and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. One did it AND scratched at his one ear...he had a yeast infection in his ear. Some antifungal and he got better. I would be way more worried if his neck bent back so he is looking up all the time or backwards with his neck all twisted-thats usually vit b deficiency or mareks. All my boys show off in one way or another. One falls off the roost spectacularly-the hens rush over and he quick gets busy...lol. they fall for it every time. Some will head shake when crowing. Or moulting-pin feathers on their necks are scratchy...or he ate something too fast. He is probably just fine and being a t rex in disguise. Lol
