Mine love oatmeal, just make sure it's not too hot so they don't burn their crop.

I feed inside, but only have water available outside. On a day like today, the chickens pop out of their coop once in a while for a quick drink and then they run right back inside. The geese and ducks are a different storey. They were all bathing today in the water trough.

I put mine outside today for a quick sunflower seed snack while I cleaned the coop They trooped right back in as soon as the sunflowers were cleaned up. For a bedtime snack they got warm oatmeal mixed with eggs, and seeds (sesame, flax, currants, hulled pumpkin seeds and goji berries). I'm getting soft in my old age. It wasn't too bad in the coop, -6 at bedtime, but we'll see what it's like in the morning.

We let them make the decision on their own. if they want to go out they go out if not they stay in. the doors are opened and it is then thier choice.
The chanties normally go out and some times the Americaunas will.
If your eggs are splitting you aren't collecting them soon enough.

All my birds are in covered pens with straw on the ground, with no snow, except a small amount in a corner for them to eat for extra moisture, so they are always wandering around the pens, no matter how cold. I have been giving the birds a bit of layer mash soaked in warm water these last couple mornings and some extra whole corn just before sunset so they can fill they crop before going to roost. So far everyone seems happy, even my tiny little Serama bantams.

We live in NW Ontario. Our chickens and ducks are preferring to stay inside.
