Sorry to hear about your rooster, Robbie. That must have been quite a shock for you.

When you think about it roosters live a very high stress life, all those hormones kicking in too.

Thanks Jaye and KB. It certainly was unexpected. :-( Hopefully my buckeye rooster is up to the job of keeping all those eggs fertile! He's a good boy too.

Re: My Cornish rooster just dropped dead. :-(
my dad had a rooster on the farm when he was growing up and he said it started to chase the hens down the lane way and then it just fell over and died LOL kinda funny, but he may have had a heart defect or he was to fat and started to get rowdy with the hens and died.

Wow! That's just crazy about WLLady losing all your birds. I heard there were problems I didn't know it was that bad. Imagine a barn of ten thousand and a bad lighting storm comes through!
Robbie welcome to the joys of farming, this kind of annoying thing will happen over and over. I didn't know there was a problem with the breed, they actually look so tough. I feel your disappointment, I hear you, I had three young buff Cochin roosters that I held back, one was a good colour, one had nice feathering and one had really good colour plus extra nice feathering, can you guess which one died on me last week?

Oh no, Skinny rooster, I think that guy Murphy has it in for us. Do you know what your Cochin died from? I'm starting to think there are more heart problems out there than I thought, if he had a heart attack too.

Robbie ,Of all the breeds I have bred over the years Cornish have been the most frustrating !! Keep in mind I bred show stock not hatchery birds, I have bred both large and bantam . Unexplained deaths and poor fertility where normal within the breed . In my own opinion I would breed the hatchery stock for meat projects and stay away from show lines . The show lines are to short legged and to wide to promote good fertility .
