Mites and lice are inevitable.. Just need to keep the numbers down, just like you would with worms etc in a barn cat..

Have you tried?

I use quite a few herbs, but neem oil is not one of them. I gave up on the idea of tea tree oil because Doug The ChickenMan told me once it is lethal to poultry.

We use neem oil mixed with liquid fish for fruit trees.

Ummm, liquid fish? Pretty sure that's not going in the coop. GACK!

I have had some time to read up on neem oil. Looks to be a repetitive suggested remedy and preventative measure.

I have neem oil. I will add to my wash down of nesting boxes etc today. But dusting and ivermectin they're all getting.!!!

When spraying or applying neem oil make sure to warm up bottle or jug in warm/hot water as it's quite thick.I have only used for orchard application so I wouldnt want eggs in contact with oil. As for.liquid fish we use as plant/tree supplement.Now can we please have some warm weather !!!!

Do check what mites you have. Most are specific to the host. So a rodent mite wont live on a chicken, a co louse wont live on a person etc. I do like the diatomaceous earth dustbath I have in the coop, although everything gets a coat of it eventually. Not that I don't have ANY mites, bet there seems to be a minimum. You really can't get rid of them completely, so the object should be controlling numbers, not eliminating. But if you want to eliminate, burning down the coop would do it nicely. Til you build another coop.

My frustration rose today. I didn't find any mites in nesting boxes and didn't find any on chickens. I treated the chickens with DE and threw the poultry dust in the nesting box slots. Boxes were washed and rubbed with poultry dust. Tomorrow everyone is getting ivermectin and a check again for mites and dusted with DE. If I see mites they will get dusted with the carbaryl stuff. I put the carbaryl dust on the roosts and rubbed it in.

The soap opera continues tomorrow.
