With our 10 RIR chicks (2 cockerels, 8 females) being 9 weeks old, and the 2 guinea keets about 8 weeks, we have started letting them out into the yard at large. This is while our regular flock is out free ranging, too. The guinea fowl are always out lately.
When 2 guineas came to check out the 2 keets (with no fence between them), a RIR cockerel defended the keets by jumping on one of the guineas, not letting it near them. Later, when venturing a bit further from their "safe zone" a.k.a. home base, the 2 keets stayed very close to the cockerel.
That little alpha cockerel is a keeper!
And so far, the bossy barred rock hens haven't bothered the little female RIR's either. But that could change.
