In praise of a good Rooster

Had a bit of an excitement here yesterday about 5:30 PM.
Mactavish is a 4 year old rooster and I love watching him work, somewhat reminds me of border collie, the way he keeps his girls under control and always on duty unless one of us is actually inside the chicken run, which is about 1/4 acre size.
since we live on edge of forest, the only way the birds can free range is when one of us is supervising in the vicinity of the barn.
Yesterday, DH was sitting at a table about 100' from the barn and I was in a gazebo about 150' away, when Mactawish started a very loud warning call, you know the one III SEEEE YOUUUUU, over and over again and not a peep out of anybody else, which got both of us on our feet just in time to see a fox coming from the right of the barn, rounding the corner around the chicken run and following the fenceline leisurely trotting away.
As I am standing with DH discussing how brazen the fox was, there is a very angry deer snorting just to the right of the barn AGAIN and a mama dear is having a go at the fox, which must have just made a circle around the chicken run and was coming back?? If it wasn't for the dear, we would have never known the fox was still around. Mactavish and his girls The chicken run
