Time for a House Hen

Post by KimChick » Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:29 pm

Just when I thought my week was busy enough, I had to rescue a hen from tail peckers.
I noticed one of my red hens had a bit of a bloody tail where new feathers are supposed to be growing. While I was in the pen cleaning, she got pecked on about three times.
Now she is in the house, in the big "house hen cardboard box". Do you think I could find the small food dish that was used in the past? Not! Ugh! The heavy pillar candle holder will do.

The hen was in the house for 4 days; she healed quite well and was getting antsy. And now, a week later, she is doing well with the rest of the birds.
Oh... and... because she wasn't sick, and I guess quite comfortable in her surroundings, she laid 3 eggs while in the box, in the house.

I guess that means we all have to bring the hens in for the winter. I have almost forgotten what an egg looks like!

Haha! That's funny! Today, I got 2 eggs from my 18 hens; one of them was from one of the older hens. I am sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for the day when the pullets that I hatched in July will start laying.... anytime now....
