Does Anyone Understand Roosters?
Re: Does Anyone Understand Roosters?
Too bad for Burt, then. None of the new hens were interested in checking out what he was doing or what he was singing to them. The ones that were nearby stayed where they were.windwalkingwolf wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 3:36 amThe most attentive and patient roosters will woo a hen by finding her a good spot to lay eggs, and then impress her with his nest-building skills and chuckling love song. If she actually sits down in that spot, she is telling him that he's won her over. Some girls like the chest beating, dancing, bellowing and general machismo behaviour that seems to abound; but some girls prefer the softer, gentler, homebody types

My Oliver has been doing that for years. He hops up into the nesting boxes and kicks all the wood shavings out, then has a nap.I secretly think he's just hiding and taking a break from being king rooster!
