Chickens and chipmunks

Do chickens ever pounce on chipmunks? I thought they would. But today, I witnessed a chipmunk approach the rooster, stop about 3 ft away, then go in between and past about 10 hens. Not one of the birds was alarmed, and not one did anything.

My chickens allowed a chippie to go into the coop and eat their food :(.

I’ve had a battle with chipmunks for the past two years. My chicks will chase them (as a game) my adults ignore them completely...even when they go in the coop 🤬

Oh great. Where is their raptor behavior when you really need it? They probably thank the chippies for cleaning up all their laying mash mess of flicked out leavings.

lets not forget that chipmunks are still rodents that can carry and transmit disease. we dont want them in our coops any more than we want rats. I seem to recall possibly O Shamo's chasing down and eating rodents whole. ;-)

From the look of him I would assume once the chipmunk population is decimated they start hunting house pets and eventually humans ?

@thegawd I totally understand the disease concern. I think chipmunks are cute and all but not near my coop. I'm about to wage all out war. I'm convinced they are the reason that I had such battles with mites this spring. They have dug under every thing. All of my carefully buried welded wire around bottom of coop/pen. Tunnels everywhere that start 8-10 feet away from coop and pop up in the pen, under the coop. I'm going crazy! My advise @KimChick is that if you see chipmunks getting cozy near your coop then get rid of them fast before they decide that it's a nice place to live!
