Friendliest Chicken Breed?

Post by WaupoosCowgirl » Wed Jan 27, 2016 5:17 pm

Everything I read said Orpingtons are big fluffy, friendly birds, well I call BS! I have 3 of the meanest birds I have ever met. They pick on my other birds terribly. They are just starting to lay and the one has laid 2 eggs total in her life and is the broodiest witch I have ever met! :broodyhen:

Interested to hear what experiences others have had and what breed you think is the nicest going/easy to get along with?

My only experience has been with PB Rocks..the pullets are 8 months old...very calm..friendly..but dont enjoy being handled much although I can stroke them..they are inquisitive and come when called..the roo, Earl, does his job and looks the part but he's an A hole extraordinaire....wonder if the girls would miss him...idiot comes at me 50% of the time and loses every time,,never seems to catch on that my rubber boot is a no win for him..otherwise its all good....great layers too

Wyandotte , Silkies & Cochins have always been my handling , work around favourites but I think all breeds being living , breathing beings have there issues & is up to breeder to raise & work with the breed they like to improve . Doesn't happen overnite tho . As said .. No app for that . Luck

Buckeyes! Although there's the odd idiot now and then, they are definitely a laid back easygoing breed. My rooster is an absolute pet. He tries to feed me.
The dark cornish are very sweet too, very low on the pecking order-but are much more easily spooked than the Buckeyes.

I did cull individuals that were jerks, so the potential for nasty ones is in both breeds but overall, I'm very happy with them.

Heritage Rhode Island Reds are the way to go! best breed all around hands down! I may be biased but Iv never had a mean bird, they are beautiful and very productive!

Now if I could just get my Buckeyes to lay as well as RIR's my life's work would be complete!
