I got some RTLs two weeks ago, most are laying but some not. Nice strong shells, nothing weird. Well tonight one that already laid this morning dropped a shell-less egg. I think its likely because she just isn't into the groove yet. Anyway. I rinsed it off and put it in the fridge. My kid wants to eat it. Thoughts?

Myself I wouldn't take a chance especially with a kid
I usually give them to my dog. Lol

If you're going to eat it, do it within 24 hours of when it was laid...they will dehydrate quickly, making the egg very thick and sticky. I find even after cooking, the texture is weird.

Good job you snagged it before the girls realised they could eat it! I wouldn't eat it but I might use it to cook with.
You're correct they might just be starting up and this one laid a bit too early.

dog food.....i wouldn't risk it, because the shell plays a very important role in keeping bacteria out....

My thoughts exactly...the shell protects from bacteria and such...I wouldnt risk letting anyone eat it.
I would feed em to my dog as a last resort, that way nothing is wasted.

I just throw them out.

Thats what I thought, thanks everyone! I pitched it in the field. No other soft ones since. I am new to chickens (my hubs grew up on a chicken farm, less enthused than I am lol) so I check them often. Definitely don't want them to think they are yummy!
