ameraucana crosses... worth the effort?
8435 Only a rooster can "hide" the blue egg gene, since it's dominant. Heterozygous hens will still lay a blue egg. Not sure what that means LOL , but if it means all F1 Amer/RSL cross girls will lay coloured eggs, nobody told my hens ;) Muffy, Fuzzy Face and Pigeon were all blissfully unaware they...

ameraucana crosses... worth the effort?
Ameraucana over rsl brown layer will give you half green layers, half brown. And an astonishing variety of feather colours, body shapes and sizes, and comb types from tiny nubby peas on girls, to big tall peas on boys, to single blades on both genders. I even get the odd cushion. They lay like champ...

Does Anyone Vaccinate?
Mine are vaccinated for Infectious Laryngotracheitis... I had a sudden outbreak in my Giant breeder coop year before last. It didn't spread to other coops, but I vaccinate everyone just in case, thanks to two other members close by who vaccinate also. It's a disease for life, and the survivors could...

They don't look nearly as bad as I thought they would from your description! Just looks like a winter moult/feather picking for protein and out of stress or boredom. They're clean and look like they are proper weight, bright-eyed and alert. They'll be right as rain in no time. I don't doubt that now...

Little Giant Incubator?
Well, vigilance seems to have paid off somewhat, 4 chicks have hatched so far out of two dozen eggs, with a couple more pipped. Bit late, which makes me think it ran low more often than high. At least it's usable with careful watching, but with two working adults and two busy teenagers at his place,...
