I bought 2 of these plastic dog houses from an ad on Kijiji. I give them to the pullets to use for winter houses. When they are old enough, they start laying in them.
I have two different covered cat litter pans that I use for nest boxes - one round and one rectangle.

Re: December on the front lawn....
There's not much snow here. We had freezing rain last week and then 3 days of heavy fog. The frozen fog made frost so heavy it is bending some of the trees, and interfering with the power lines. Only house sparrows, a ton of mice, and 1 snowy owl around for critters. IMG_7567.JPG The tree in the mid...

Re: Why are ALL the Poultry forums peetering out?
I originally joined a forum when I decided to get some chickens. I appreciated all the chicken information there, but was also pleased to find all the other subjects that were being discussed. I have a lot of different interests. I like to look at pictures too. I am not a fan of Facebook for several...

Re: SNOW
There was some snow here in October already, and more now. We have had wind chills as low as -30 a couple of nights. Wednesday is supposed to have a high of plus 6. Crazy weather!

Re: Backyard Poultry in Ontario..
I grew up in the city. There were no chickens in town. My mother's parents were pioneers, and lived on the farm. Almost all her family members farmed as well. We often went to the farms to visit and most of the chickens were running loose in the yard. I preferred it to visiting relatives in the city...

Re: Mice control
I've heard that you can catch them with a five gallon pail that has the bottom covered with whole flax seed, and some kind of bait if you want. You set it near something that they can climb on to get in. Once they are in the pail they can't jump up to get out because the flax seed is too slippery. Y...

Re: Calico? cat
I called our local humane society once to report a Siamese cat that was dead on the road in Regina, and they got defensive and wanted to know if I had hit it. I told them no, I just thought someone might have reported it missing. The acted like I was lying, and had hit it and wouldn't take responsib...

Easter eggers
I put up an ad to sell the 6 "pure" Ameraucana hens I got from BC eggs. I advertised them as Easter eggers for $10 each (I need the space). They are poor quality examples of Ameraucanas, but lay light green eggs. They don't even look nice right now - they are finishing a partial molt and have pretty...
