-28 when I left this morning and -16 in the coop with the panel heater on. When I checked the outside and coop temps at 3:00 am, the coop was -13 and the outside temp was -25. Thanks for posting about your panel heaters last winter, KB!

IMHO, just because chickens *can* tolerate very cold temperatures, doesn't mean that they should have to, and there's nothing wrong with making things a bit more comfortable for them if you can, or want to. We have a small coop like you (8 x12, 1/3 is coop and 2/3 is storage) and it is mostly insula...

What a character. I'm assuming that bantams are quieter than LF chickens, so he's not terribly loud ... or that not the case?

I have no experience with ILT, so no advice to give, but you do have my compassionate support. For what it's worth, I think your plan sounds like a good one, given your circumstances and the time of year.

Most of mine are freeloaders at the moment, but they are providing extra heat in the coop at night, so that is a plus for me.
