Red Jungle Fowl

Does anyone here keep Red Jungle Fowl? I got 4 at a month old and they are now 8 weeks. Interested in others experiences with them. I was able to tell their sex at like 5-6 weeks, two Roos and two pullets. I’ve noticed that they seem to be very hardy and energetic. They have warmed up to me over tim...

Re: Bio Security and Wild Turkey's?

Oh for sure and the risk is very real but I’ve decided to just enjoy my birds and let them enjoy the world, while discouraging socializing with the wildlife as much as possible. I have a nice video of the turkey walking across the lawn behind the ducks...but I can’t get it to upload....cause I’m a t...

Re: Bio Security and Wild Turkey's?

Yes try to evict that new neighbor for sure. But, if it gives you some peace of mind, we had a wild Jenny here last year and for the entire time she incubated her eggs she would show up every day and hang with my free range chickens and ducks. She ate out of the garden where they picked bugs and eve...

Re: Am I reading this right?

It’s good that he also said they are great for “mating with chickens”. Imagine the horrors that the offspring of one mated with a lion could wreak on humanity. They are production red and red sexlink roosters....for fighting? What a twit! Good for you guys for reporting it. They’ve probably had a cr...

Re: Ok...this is weird

Tom, I just remembered something. I have used blu-kote (or however they spell it on the bottle) in the past on hens that were moulting to stop the other birds from picking their pin feathers. It’s for cattle, but it’s not harmful to birds. It worked because they don’t like the colour and won’t touch...

Re: Ok...this is weird

To clarify my reply - What I meant by “bad habit” is that when some birds start eating feathers, it may not stop regardless of what you do. As I said, my birds had plenty of good, high protein food, I supplement with vitamins several days s week, lots of space and I did try the raw meat angle as wel...
