Re: Weasels

I miss our big Tom cat. He’d even kill the smaller weasels. When old age took him, I’ve never been able to find one as tough as him. He took on a skunk one time. The yard stunk for days.

Re: Good Morning!

Sounds like we’re at the start of the next heat wave. Fingers crossed it rains tomorrow night and Thursday as noted on Environment Canada. The cistern and rain barrels need refills soon.

Re: Good Morning!

@Jaye I used the 50% veg oil, 50% water and tbs of dish soap. Suffocated the buggers. Putting duct tape, sticky side out on our poor oak trees that are under heavy attack. The snow this morning didn’t fizz on them.

Re: Good Morning!

Can you hear the screams....we are over run with Gypsy Moths. My daughter’s face, arms and chest are inflamed and covered with welts. She has the most contact with the gates and fencing on the farm and has been bitten by the damn things. Acres of fencing are covered with the little black buggers. I ...

Day old chick identification

Just picked up chicks of 3 different breeds from Performance Poultry. They were all together in one box. So I was trying to separate the Partridge Chantecler from the Gold Laced Wyandottes ....and seeking some pic help to back up my guess work. Anyway, I found this site that might be of interest to ...

Re: Keeping the birds out of the flower garden

Or the lawn mower. As we mow the lawn the guineas from a cloud around it. Between them, the peafowl and the chickens, I just don’t understand why a single insect is on this property.

Re: What do I do?

Sounds like you have it under control. Next time it might be a good idea to totally separate the hens. One is bound to be dominant, which gives you the problem. I’ve had dominate hens totally take the chicks from a lower hierarchy hen. Even when they are their hatch. Also had two hens equally raise ...

Re: Keeping the birds out of the flower garden

Totally interested in a solution. I must be a share holder by now in the wire garden fencing sold by Canadian Tire. It does slightly slow them down. I swear my garden at this time of year looks like I’m growing slate slabs, old flower pots, wood pieces and rocks. All stuff I put in their favourite b...

Re: What do I do?

Best of luck! I’ve done this successfully on the fly with some chicks deserted by a hen. Stuck the chicks under a broody hen in the coop at night. The next morning it was worth your life to touch those chicks. She was a supper protective hen. With all your prep you are bound to succeed. I do think i...
