I think unfortunately the window for chicks bonding with your broody hen and for your broody hen bonding with your chicks has passed. Most suggest that under a week old it's still possible, depending on the broody and the chicks, but beyond that, success is much less likely.

yeah, I've noticed that too - a large amount of red gets extreme reactions from my chickens. I've learned my lesson and don't wear my red rain jacket around them any more.

18185 I like my Basque hens as steady brown egg layers, as an added bonus the cockerels are very tasty too! http://nabha.weebly.com/ I agree, they are steady layers. I didn't think of EOs, only because mine lays a very pretty light pinkish beige egg, and I don't think "brown" when I look at it. But...
