Re: Why did my new chickens die?

Welcome to PTO! Looking forward to hearing more from you. Sorry for mysterious loss of Lisa and Marie. You obviously did everything right, so, as others have implied, it might be something genetic or a disease in the home flock. Try asking the person you got them from if others from the same flock s...

Re: Watering singles

You can screw a nipple waterer into the top of a water bottle and hang it upside down on the side of the cage. Or the cup type ones where the chicken pecks on a lever that fills the cup. Amazon sells both in various size packs. Cheap.

BA8AFCDF-CE45-4A75-9CFD-E775FDEDC5CD.jpeg Oh that’s weird. I did post a pic, same day, I swear I did. Why are there no posts from July 29 to today? Anyway, here is a pic. On the left, Nanette, a 3-4 week old golden laced black crested Polish, probably female Three 1-week-old khaki Campbell duckling...

Re: Good Morning!

Chicken math again. I went to pick up a 3-4 week old Polish (golden laced black) thinking thats one way to skip the whole heat lamp hassle, and she is roughly the same size as the ducklings, so won’t get trampled. They can all go out to the outside isolation pen together in a few days. The ducklings...

Re: Good Morning!

I can second that opinion of cardiologists, Ontario Chick and JimW , considering they told my husband his heart was so badly damaged, there wasn’t enough left for surgery, and he’d be dead before the weekend. They were off by two and a half years. It’s a good thing you got a baseline ecg, Jim, so ne...

Re: Good Morning!

Thanks kenya and Killerbunny , I will keep them separated, but I was wondering how long you think I need to wait before introducing them? I don’t remember now how I introduced the Wyandottes to the runner ducks and the new polish chicks or when, even though it was just last summer. I just turned 65,...

Re: Good Morning!

I was debating whether to replace my three beloved runner ducks after they were murdered, but have been spared my indecision by a friend who decided to give me three Khaki Campbell ducklings for my birthday. They are very sweet. I am making then a separate pen today, since Lois at the farm store say...

Re: Good Morning!

Somehow Marsha, my favourite beauty of a Polish hen, the one with the pure white poof, got out of the yard, and I heard a squawk out front, but couldn’t get there fast enough to save her from the damned killer dog. RIP sweet Marsha. So sad. So now I have just one Polish hen left, Millie. I feel sorr...
