Re: Good Morning!
Pea hens have been busy weaning last year’s chicks. Pretty noisy with yearlings bawling for their hens. I have 4 young from last year that I got too paranoid of having people in to buy them. The man of the house kept getting sick....his autoimmune system is crap at the best of times. So I wintered t...

Re: Garden re-imagined....
So it’s that time of babysitting seedlings that I’m ready to drop kick them out to the garden. I have trays of them in the upstairs bathroom as it has a huge window and a skylight. Would be great if the weather would stabilize, then I could start toughing them up for going out. Calling for freezing ...

Wood stove on last night and again today. Just enough to drive the chill out. Didn’t get a lot of rain, fingers crossed for more. We’ve opened up all the roof pipes that open into the cisterns. Normally wait till end of April, but terrified this going to be a dry hot year.

I’ve had good results with Snackyard products too. First year for feeding the dried black soldier....practically get mobbed when I rattle them in the feed scope. The peafowl, even the young, will eat them from my hand via the scope.

Re: Garden re-imagined....
We’re sandy here.....have to admit I love potatoes fresh out of the garden. I downsized our garden too. With just the two of us and I hate preserving, I grow what we can eat fresh. I do freeze tons of tomatoes and rhubarb. That being said, I have tons left over. Maybe a rule of thumb should be if it...

Can’t believe how far ahead you are with spring. Ground still frozen with snow still just laying there with that ‘you can’t make me disappear’ attitude. Looks like we’ll catch up this weekend. Feel sorry for folks trying to do maple syrup this year if the nights continue to warm after the -9 tonight...

Re: More illegal things.... coming?
I do feed it to the game birds in the winter. Rarely give them to the chickens. On the same note, I have never feed eggs, cooked or uncooked, back to any bird species we have. The game birds need a far higher protein level all year around. I’m careful of the source of the mealworms. I can see that f...
