Re: New Breeder Coops

@ross thanks for the reminder. All good though no access to the foam, all sealed up between plywood and sheet metal.

Here is the inside of the one coop wall with the attached external nest box. Painted sheet metal on the inside.

New Breeder Coops

So since I downsized my number of birds during the winter and several friends are still looking after some of my birds, since my surgery, I figured it was a good time to build some new coops. I started a bit in the fall before my heart surgery and just got back to doing a little building an hour or ...

Re: sufficient ventilation v2

Ross's ideal sounds good. For your size of coop 12 square feet, I would think even 8 birds is a lot, unless they are out all day every day and just sleeping in the coop. Even so you will need quite a bit of ventilation in that size of coop, as in the winter in such a confined space the birds at nigh...

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?

I was not going to comment but.... I love all the "they are taking our rights away" and "I cannot take this any more, we need to get back to our normal lives, this is too much" all over social media. Drives my crazy. I want to get back to normal life asap as well, heck I have basically been self-iso...

Re: Good Morning!

Good day. Speaking of grocery pick up, if you are not in one of the high risk groups I recommend going into grocery stores and buying your groceries yourself, just do not 'dilly dally", shop with purpose. My teenage daughter works at our local Walmart in Smiths Falls, she normally works about 15-20 ...

Re: Quick CHICKEN COOP Emergency plans Any one?

The finished size is 4 feet by 8 feet, so inside about 30 square feet, and about 4 feet tall. I usually keep about 5 birds in them. Usually takes me less than a day to build.

Re: Quick CHICKEN COOP Emergency plans Any one?

I use 4 foot x 8 foot Hoop Houses... Base made from 2x6 lumber and then staple hardware cloth to the bottom, so nothing can dig under and get into the house. I then bend 1/2" PVC electrical conduit to form the hoops, then cover with mesh, I use 1x1 inch welded wire. I use plastic zip ties to attach ...

Re: grocery store 2020

baronrenfrew yep I saw the prices on Monday it is crazy. It would not surprize me if Alberta oil companies end up having to give oil away or pay someone to take it. My buddy is currently driving transport in Alberta and has access to a oil tanker trailer, if you ever want a tanker trailer of crude ...

Re: grocery store 2020

If anything good eventually comes out of this maybe it will be that more people will look to buy more local and be more self-sufficient. Some of the people trying to fight their local bylaws to allow backyard chickens can maybe use this as pandemic and the food hording, in their case for "home grown...

Re: WTB: Cream Legbars / Salmon Fav / Black Copper Marans FOUND

@Rossman as mentioned I can probably get you eggs from my BC marans and my friend's legbars, but probably not chicks, or at least not for awhile. Cream Legbars are autosexing so you can sex them at hatch. BC marans usually need to be at least a month old before you can sex them.
